Get Over Yourself! Do You Think You can Dress Like a Slob and be Success? You Can’t so Get over Yourself!

I know that I love to stay in my pj’s all day and then when I do get dressed for the day I want to be comfortable.  I work from home and that is one of the benefits of the “job.”  I don’t have to dress up in order to go to an office where everyone will be scrutinizing me all day long.  I love the lifestyle that working from home affords me.  But there are times when I have to say, “get over yourself” and dress appropriately.

I was told a story about silver backed mountain gorillas.  They are very big and live in the high mountains.  They look quite menacing but they are actually shy and don’t like to be around animals from other tribes of monkeys.  The males are huge and look like they would kill you immediately if you got close to them.  Actually it is all a show.  They have silver hair on their backs and spend hours shining their coats.  When they feel they are properly groomed they will go among the pack and strut their stuff. 

Theirs head will be a little higher and they will act more aggressive in an attempt to draw females to them so they can breed.  It is all just a show of aggression when they aren’t aggressive at all.  They are actually quite gentle.

So how shiny is your coat?  Do you have to get over yourself and your tendency to be a slob in order to show up big in your company or business?  Perhaps you need a haircut or you need to lose a few pounds.  Maybe a couple of new dresses or shirts would mean all the difference.

                                                     

People are always making snap judgments about others.  We are hardwired to look for something pretty or someone who looks nice in a crowd.  If you don’t look good then you will be judged accordingly.  Even the way you hold yourself or the way you present you idea will make a difference in the way people perceive you.  So get over yourself and make you the best you can be by making sure you have a shiny coat before you go out.
