Your Head Game of Happiness, How Do You Play Your Head Game Of Happiness

What makes you happy? This is a very important question, maybe one of the most important questions you will ever ask yourself.  Many of us play a head game of happiness because we really don’t know what makes us happy.  We think we are happy but we really aren’t.

There are three head games of happiness that we play in order to avoid our own happiness.  First we spend all of our lives postponing happiness.  I used to know a lot of people in the workforce who thought they would be happy when they retire.  They would finally get to go and do the things that they want to do.  Perhaps go fishing whenever they wanted, go see their favorite place, or go see the grandkids whenever they wanted.  The thing is, if you’re not happy now, you won’t be happy later.  I have known many people that retire and then they are dead within six months.  That’s not happiness.

Second, we spend our days trying to make other people happy.  I know that feeling.  I was trapped in that for many years.  I was programmed when I was a child not to upset anyone because dad was always mad about something.  I could never make him happy but I certainly didn’t want to make him unhappy.  I tried all my life to make unhappy people happy.  It didn’t work.  I found out that the only way for me to be happy is to make myself happy.  Then I could truly make other people happy.

Third, happiness is really just an illusion so we compare our happiness to others.  This is a very dangerous trap to fall into because we start comparing ourselves with other people.  Whenever we do this we set ourselves up for failure.

Happiness is really just a state of mind.  How do we get happy and stay happy?  We do it by living in gratitude.  We have to be grateful for who we are and where we are today.  So think about it, what do you have to be grateful for today?  So many of us in the Western World are not grateful for what we have and we are so miserable.  We have a lot more than people in many in other parts of the world.  So don’t play a head game of happiness, be grateful for what you have today and you will be happy.  Stop being ungrateful for every little thing that happens and find joy in your adversity.
