Get Over Yourself, You’re a Liar, You Need to Get Over Yourself

Do you think of yourself as a person of integrity?  I’ll bet you do?  Do you lie?  I’ll bet you do.  You may think that you never lie but there is one person that you lie to every day.  It’s not your kids or your spouse, it’s not even your pastor or your boss; it’s you!!  How many times have you told yourself you’re going to change something only to lie to yourself and never change anything?

You tell yourself so many times that you are going to lose weight, stop eating sweets, stop watching so much TV, or get to the gym.  You don’t change these things and you have done it so many times that you don’t even believe yourself anymore.  How terrible is that!  You don’t believe yourself.  You know you’re a liar, a cheat, and not to be trusted.  Your accountability to yourself sucks.  You are probably the kind of person that keeps your word with others, but you lie to yourself all the time.  This is why you need others to hold you accountable.

How do you leverage your integrity with others to keep yourself accountable?  Psychologists say we are the happiest when we can see the progress that we are making.  We love to feel accomplished.  So one thing that you can do is make a to do list.  Every time you mark something off the list you will feel more accomplished.  It is an awesome feeling, checking things off the list.  We love to see the evidence of progress.

You need to set up visual evidence of your progress.  Make your big three goals that will make this year the best year of your life.   Then break them down into small steps that can be accomplished every single day.  Make sure you have a place where you can see your daily progress and mark it off the list every single day.  That will help make you feel like you are accomplishing something every day.

For example, perhaps your goal is to lose 50 pounds, get to the gym every day, and do some core exercises.  Get a big calendar and put it up in your office so that you have to stare at it every single day.  When you actually get to the gym and do those core exercises, mark it off on the calendar.  You have to stare at it all the time and when you don’t achieve it you won’t feel good about yourself.  When you do you will feel great.  Therefore, helping you to achieve your goals.  Keep doing this exercise until you establish a habit that you don’t want to break.
