The Super Bowl is upon us.  In just a few days we will find out who the greatest team in football really is; the Denver Broncos or the Carolina Panthers.  After all the hype, advertising, and glitter of Super Bowl week it will come down to the game and who plays a better game.  The coaches that win the most are doing one thing right now, going back to the fundamentals.  I’m sure the Cam Newton and Payton Manning are throwing ball after ball after ball this week, keeping their skills sharp.  They, along with the rest of the team are studying the playbook and practicing fundamental plays.  The team that has their plays down the best will be the team that wins.

We all think that there is some magic pill or potent that will make us rich and give us the edge in business.  That’s not true.  The one thing we need to do is go back to business fundamentals.  Going back to business fundamentals can be boring.  Success is boring.  It’s doing the same thing over and over again.  You do it enough and you will achieve success.

When you go back to business fundamentals in a residual income business it means you have to master the art of prospecting.  That means doing lots of prospecting for a while until your business finally takes off.  Only then can you back off the gas a rest a little bit.  The fundamentals of prospecting revolve around the 3X30X5 principle.  It means that you prospect three hours a day, five days a week.  Let’s face it if you don’t have 15 hours a week to put into your business, you aren’t really serious about it.  Then you make 30 calls an hour.  You should be able to make that many, depending on how many people you get on the phone.  The last is getting five people committed to your presentation every day.  That means that you show your business plan or presentation to 25 people every single week.

Here’s the deal, people aren’t going to buy from you unless they know you are out there and they can buy from you.  That’s just the way it is.  There is no such thing as that magic person that is going to take your business to the top.  They don’t exist.  If you only show your product or service to one person a month you will not have a sustainable business.  Prospecting is one of the business fundamentals that you need to master in order to have a large residual income.  Go back to business fundamentals and you will win.

Residual Income Opportunity! How Does a Residual Income Opportunity Make You the Best You Can Be?

Whenever we start looking at a residual income opportunity like a direct marketing company the first thing we want to know is how on earth does this work?  How do we do it?  What gadget, what sales tactic, and what silver bullet can I use to build my business?  When it comes to a residual income opportunity it’s not so much how you do it, it’s how you become it?

What do I mean by that.  A residual income opportunity will make you the best that you can be.  You have to learn to be patient, sell to others, and smile when things aren’t going good.  If you are an introvert like me you have to come out of your shell enough to be able to talk to people about your opportunity or product.  I’m a bit more than an introvert.  I’m almost a hermit.  It can be very difficult for me to talk to people.

I was listening to a guru person that I know yesterday and he had some great insights.  First, stop watching the news.  We think we need to know what is going on in the world, but the news is very depressing.  I haven’t watched the news in about five years now and I think I still know what’s happening.  What I don’t know I don’t need to know.  Stop watching cop shows like CSI, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, and the plethora of cop shows that are on television today.  They will give you a slanted view of the world.  Read something before you go to bed. What you put in you mind before you go to bed will really determine your mindset the next day.  If you read something uplifting before you go to bed you will have a better mindset the next day.

True Grit, What Does The Movie True Grit Have to Do with your Business?

Have you ever watched either one of the True Grit movies?  The first movie stared the “man’s man” John Wayne as an old gritty sheriff that went after the killer of a young girls father.  The second time was the remake staring Jeff Bridges.  Both movies were the showed what true grit means.  It means going after something and never stopping.

So what does true grit have to do with your business?  You must have it.  Determination and grit are necessary in order to develop a business.  That never quit attitude is the most important thing that you can have when you start developing your business.

Most people quit before they get to the gold.  I remember reading a book where someone stopped mining for gold.  They sold the gold mine to someone just two feet short of the mother load.  So many people just give up because it gets too tough for them. 

There are three things needed to succeed in business.  They are posture, skill, and consistency.  Posture has to do with your confidence.  Are you a confident person?  Such skills can be learned by what you put into your brain.  We are programmed  from the time we were small children.  Confidence may not be programmed into us, but we can learn it by what we watch, read, and listen to.  Stop listening to the news and stop watching all the cop shows on television.  That is a great way to start.  It’s also easy.  You just have to stop doing something.  Start filling your brain with positive things.  Listen to positive CD’s and go places that help you with your confidence.  Go to places like Toastmasters.  They will help your confidence level.

Then there’s skill.  You need to learn skill to do any kind of a job or business.  One of the reasons people will not be successful is they don’t have the skill set necessary to be successful.  That means you need to go out and find the skill necessary.  No one is going to give you the skill to do a direct marketing business.  It’s something you have to learn and it can be difficult.

The last is consistency.  This is where the true grit part comes in.  If you have a bad day and everything seems to be going wrong, do you give up or just keep going?  This it the true test.  Will you be consistent when it seems like all is lost?  If you have posture and skill it really doesn’t matter unless you can be consistent.

I see more people fail from lack of attitude than I do from lack of skill.  Skill can be easily developed.  Learning how to put up a website, advertise your website, and get an email from someone is relatively easy.  However, when it comes to making your business dreams come true you need true grit or attitude.  You need to have the never quit, I will not be denied attitude.

When we start a home-based business, especially one that is on the internet, we need to have a positive mental attitude that will affect our results.  That’s the most important thing we can have.  But what we do is we go to all the gurus that promise us big results fast and we forget about how a positive mental attitude affects results. 

I know how you feel.  You want results in your business so much that you will do anything you can to get what you want.  I have spent over $50,000 and five years doing just that.  I went to internet guru after internet guru to find something that gave me big results.  I believe that some of these tactics and shinny objects might really have worked if I had the right mental attitude to get the results that they promised.

I was programmed to believe I wasn’t worth anything and I didn’t have anything to give anyone.  I came from a very abusive background.  If I can be reprogrammed you can be reprogrammed.  It all depends on what you put into your mind.  You can’t control your thoughts.  They are like a two year old running around with no discipline.  But you can control what you put into your mind.  If you want a positive mental attitude that affects results you need to watch what you put into your mind.  All the negative junk that you hear on the news, on facebook, and around the water cooler isn’t helping.  You need to read books that are positive, listen to positive CD’s, and meditate on them.
