The Benefits of Living a Life of Purpose

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”  Isaiah 26:3

There are many benefits to live a life of purpose.  So many people do not live a life of purpose and they suffer for it.  So does society.  We need your God given talents and abilities because society is better for it.  Here are five reasons why living a life of purpose is beneficial.

1.    If you know your purpose your life has meaning.  Have you ever known anyone that had a job for many years?  They couldn’t wait to retire so they could do what they wanted only to die in a couple of months.  That happened to a cousin of mine.  He retired early at the age of 60 to do the things he wanted to do with his long time girlfriend.  They had great plans to hike and ATV all of the U.S.  But he was dead in two weeks.  When he retired from his job he lost his purpose.  Purpose in God is even better.  Without God life has no purpose.  And without purpose, life has no meaning, significance or hope.
2.    If you know your purpose it simplifies your life.  If you know your purpose it defines what you do.  Without a clear purpose you have no foundation on which you base decisions, allocate your time, and use your resources.  You will tend to allow the world to make choices for you depending on circumstances, pressures, and your mood at the moment.  This leads to stress, fatigue, and conflict.
3.    If you know your purpose your life is in focus.  You concentrate your life on what is important.  You become effective and selective.  One of the things we have trouble doing is saying no to people.  If we have a clear since of purpose we don’t have as much trouble saying no and focusing on what is important.
4.    If you know your purpose you are motivated.  Purpose always produces passion.  There is nothing in the world that energizes you like a clear purpose.  No matter how many hours you work and how much you have to do it seems like nothing if you know and live your purpose.
5.    If you know your purpose you are prepared of eternity.  Many people put up great edifices for themselves so that they can be remembered here on earth when they die.  But what does God say about you?  Most people will fall from memory soon after they die.  No one will remember them.  But if you build an eternal legacy you will be remembers in heaven and on earth.

Living your life with purpose if essential if you wish to influence this planet in any way.  When Michael Landon was told he was going to die he said he wished someone had told him that when he was born.  He would have lived each day with a special sense of purpose.  We are all going to die someday. How do you live your life?
