Short Term Goals - Cottage Cheese and Short Term Goals

That is the most ridiculous title EVER! What does cottage cheese have to with short term goals? It’s so outrageous and insulting that reading any further may be hazardous to your mental health. OR you just might discover something amazing that will impact your life in a most positive way.

First, I’ll start with cottage cheese. Have you ever wondered where it comes from? How is it produced and where did the name originate? Simple questions but without looking on the internet can you answer them?

I have enjoyed cottage cheese many times but I couldn’t answer these questions without some research (the word we used before there was google or wikipedia). The first known use of the term "cottage cheese" dates back to 1831 and is believed to have originated because the simple cheese was usually made in cottages from any milk left over after making butter.

So, what is the link between cottage cheese and short term goals? It is the fact that often both tend to be taken for granted. Seldom do people think about cottage cheese when it is included in a meal. Likewise, short term goals are overlooked when planning a strategy to achieve an end. This is true especially in visualization techniques.

Yeah, you know what I’m referring to. You want an expensive new car so you find a picture of the exact model with all the features and you post it on the dream wall. Everyday you look at that picture of the goal you want to obtain. It is the end result of your desire but what’s forgotten is the short term goals that lead up to the final purchase.

Like the little curds of cottage cheese these small steps toward the big reward are more attainable. They happen more often giving you the confidence that the ultimate goal can be reached. Nothing succeeds like success but unfortunately the exhilaration of succeeding only lasts a short time. If you have one huge goal then the satisfaction of reaching it last the same amount of time.

To help understand this concept imagine your a realtor. It takes approximately 30 days to finalize a home purchase for your client. The thrill of achieving that goal happens just once during the month. Now if you set a goal of showing two homes each day and accomplish that short term goal then you experience success more often in the month. The reality is that it takes showing that many homes each month to close on one sale.

You might not see how cottage cheese and short term goals have anything in common but you now know a little more about both of them. I have more ideas of helping you reach your full potential.
